The most rigorous academic foundation for emerging scholars, Oxford IIR offers selective online research programmes for motivated high school students, guided by Oxford or Cambridge mentors and supported by recognised academic qualifications.

The Oxford Institute for Interdisciplinary Research provides the most advanced research opportunities for students who wish to engage in serious academic work beyond the standard school curriculum.

Through sustained mentorship from a mentor based in a world-leading institution such as Oxford or Cambridge University, participants explore complex global challenges, challenge themselves, and build the intellectual tools required to excel in university study and beyond. Our students work exclusively on the most rigorous research projects and texts.

All our sessions run fully online to enable students to learn with us from anywhere in the world. Our programmes are available to students aged 13-18 who are ready to achieve their academic aspirations.

The Frontier Fellowship

The Publication Fellowship

One-to-one mentorship with an academic expert from a leading global university, as well as one of our in-house publication experts.
3 Weeks of 1 hour of class per day; 15 hours of live academic engagement, and supplemented by extensive, guided, independent study. 4 sessions with a publication coach to hone your essay.
Culminates in a sole-authored research essay to work towards publication or to support university applications.
Recognised with 8 UCAS Points, a formal certificate, and a detailed written evaluation.
The Collegium Seminar

The Accredited Fellowship

One-to-one academic mentorship with an expert from a globally leading research university.
3 weeks; 15 live contact hours; supported by guided independent study outside of tutorials.
Deliverables include a sole-authored research essay reviewed by your mentor and a UCAS recognised qualification.
Graduates additionally receive a formal certificate and a detailed written evaluation from the Institute.
The Frontier Fellowship

One-to-one mentorship with an academic expert from a leading global university.
2 Weeks of 1 hour of class per day; 10 hours of live academic engagement, and supplemented by guided independent study.
Culminates in a research project or paper to support college applications.

Examples of Research Outputs

Scholars complete substantial, original work under mentor supervision. Recent research topics and deliverables have included:

  • “Predictive Modeling of Epidemic Dynamics Using Social Media Data” — including a full statistical analysis and Python-based simulation tool.
  • Legal and Ethical Implications of Generative AI in Public Education Systems” — resulting in a comprehensive policy memo.
  • Urban Heat Island Mapping in Emerging Economies” — supported by a GIS based interactive visualization All deliverables are assessed against university-level rubrics and presented at the IIR Global Symposium.

Our mentors include professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates and Masters graduates with exceptional track records from globally recognised universities. Most of our mentors are based at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, allowing you to access expertise from some of the world's most academically challenging universities.

Mentors are selected based on subject expertise, research record, and commitment to supporting pre-college scholars. Each student is matched with a mentor aligned to their interests and receives detailed, constructive feedback throughout the programmes.
